Ogilvie Visit

The Ogiviles came to visit this weekend. They came up Friday afternoon and stayed overnight. Drew had a blast with Evan, who is so cute! We had great fun with Aaron and Julie and Evan was an angel. So mellow.

As it was Julie's birthday on Saturday, in the morning, I went a little breakfast crazy and made fresh sticky buns and asparagus quiche. I keep telling Rich that I really need two ovens to operate optimally in the kitchen.

We hung out with the kids and then took the to the park after breakfast and Evan's nap on Saturday.

We hope they'll come back for another visit soon!

At the park, the boys broke in Drew's t-ball set which he received from the Ogilvies for Christmas. A Cars themed soft bat, ball, and glove.

Rich and Aaron's efforts led to some...wear on the ball.

Look carefully - the threads are pulling out from along the exaggerated seam.

Evan, Julie and I hung out on the blanket. Evan loves being on Julie. He's so content to be with her.

Evan had his first try in a swing. It didn't quite work out.

He seemed far more fascinated with the chain than the swinging itself.

Bubble Popper

Wanted: someone to pop all the bubbles on sheets of bubblewrap left over from moving extravaganza.

Oh, wait. That's Drew's job. Only he's not quite heavy enough to make it work. Even with shoes on, he can't quite do that. That's where Amy and Daddy get involved. Except he hates it when someone else pops his bubbles. So here he is...performing heroic feats to do the job.

Nature's painful treat

These hurt my mouth, but I can't stop eating them.

Near beer

Amy picked up a 6 pack of this so I could legally drive around while enjoying a beer.  The bonus effect was that I didn't immediately fall asleep after reading Drew his bedtime story.

Amy's new kitchen appliance

It only makes messes, but she's trying to teach it to do other things.

James' party

It's like a colorful version of a rubber room.

Feedbag

Sometimes, Amy borrows my phone for a picture and I don't see it until I take a look at what is on here. And to clarify, Drew was not sick, he just really likes fries.

Rent-a-Drew

Yesterday, Drew had yet another birthday party to attend (3rd one in the last 3 weekends), and he got to run around with his little buddies, including his friend Van. On our way home from the party, Van's parents called us to ask if Drew would like to come over for a play-date that afternoon / evening. He'd just seen Van, but hey, we knew he'd have a good time.

Amy was experimenting with making chicken pot pie last evening, and Drew isn't usually one to be voluntarily adventurous with his meals, so he opted to go have dinner with Van. We drove him over a little before 5, and Van's grandparents were at the house, but they said that several other people were also coming over for dinner that evening. Drew was going to be a childhood babysitter.

We left him there until a little after 8, when we picked him up. They had 2 other couples over and were all talking and enjoying some drinks, while Drew and Van happily busied themselves with a Thomas the Train set, walking around the table, driving the trains in circles. They seem to have kept each other occupied the entire time. We told Drew that it was time to go home, and he made the rounds, hugging each person in the room, whether he knew them or not, and when he hugged Van, it turned into a cute little wrestling match, where they fell onto the couch in a friendly embrace.

We deduced that Drew was definitely a babysitter for them for the evening, which was fine with us. We got to thinking about his value in this matter. When you want to have friends over, you don't want to have to constantly watch the kid, but you don't want to get rid of him, either. It worked well for everyone. But now, we're wondering - what is this service worth?

Jame's Birthday

And another weekend, another birthday. This time, James, one of Drew's little buddies.

He's fine!

Drew had his last checkup that he needs before entering the school system and he passed with flying colors. Five shots, which he handled like a pro, and even a heart test so he doesn't have to go bionic like daddy.

Crashing Amy

Luckily, no one was injured.

Drew and Nevaeh fight their way up.

Nevaeh's Birthday

Drew is in the midst of a slew of birthday parties. This is the second is a set of five, one per weekend. Neveah's birthday was at a bounce house facility which was actually quite fun. I didn't bring socks, but Wendi, Neveah's grandmother, brought a spare pair and I returned the favor by helping the birthday girl up some of the more difficult bounce houses. I had as much fun as the kids, I think. It's one of those pure joys to run around these things and just enjoy with the kids.

Drew was obsessed with playing DDR. Wendi gave him some quarters and he went to town. He didn't quite understand that he was only supposed to play on half.

And as always, Drew, the trendster playing on something led to other kids playing on it.

After an hour and a half of bouncing their hearts out, it was time for pizza and cake. Here's Drew sitting between his buddies Julian and Van.
