Sacramento downtown

Nice weather today, but it could be about 20 degrees warmer.

A tractor!

A picture for drew. Not really a backhoe, but we'll call it that anyway.

MySQL ODBC drivers can bite my butt!

If you can't rant about stupid stuff on your blog that no one cares about, where can you rant?

Today's adventure. I just want to create an ODBC connection to a MySQL database. It's very simple stuff! I install the driver as administrator, and everything goes great. Now, I just need to find the driver to create the source. This is what I want to see (see that cute little MySQL ODBC 3.51 driver looking all..you know...present?).

And this is what I get. Notice the lack of a MySQL driver?

Maybe I should just stick to things like snapping pictures with my phone and adding meaningless text. It's certainly less frustrating.

One hot stud

In the parking lot behind my office. I'll have to pay attention to see who the hot stud is that drives a jetta, then gets the vanity plate to advertise it.

Making cuts

He's working on cutting people out of pictures. He doesn't have a lot of patience, so they often end up decapitated.

Amy's pie

We picked up a strawberry rhubarb pie last weekend. Amy has been enjoying it all week long. Today, she found a bit of mold starting to grow on it. I tried to catch her look of utter disappointment on digital film, but she hid from the camera just as i was ready to shoot, so all you get is a shot of the pie.

Spiderman at the library

He wouldn't take a picture next to the big dinosaur skeleton because it was too scary. We left with 9 books.

The mountain

I was too afraid to take my phone on the hill for fear i would fall and crush it. So this is the only shot of it you get, sorry!

Lighter than air

Oh my, geek lust boiling over here. I played with a macbook air at frys today. I don't care that it's underpowered and expensive. It's still the coolest laptop ever built.

Paper hat

One of the guys working there scored him a paper hat. He got tired of it in just a few minutes.

A cheese hamburger and fries

We were both hungry, and in n out is cheap and tasty.

Near death

Here i am, all done up with oxygen and an iv waiting for blood tests to come back. I waited here for over 2 hours while they ran the blood, which came back with excellent results. Later, i took a treadmill test, which i did very well on, especially considering they didn't let me eat lunch. Final verdict - healthy heart, but a wasted day.

Severe heart damage

This had the doctors all worried that i'd suffered a major heart attack. Off to the er to waste the day on tests!

My new favorite things

Okay, I've gotta introduce the world to some of my new favorite things. These are just too great to pass up.

First up, Martin Sargent has a new podcast, Internet Superstar. Improving nearly every way on Infected, which was amazing in its own right, this is my new favorite podcast. Best of all, when you mention Martin in your blog, he usually drops by to say hi.

Next on the list is a new webcomic I've just been introduced to, Truck Bearing Kibble. It's very similar to Perry Bible Fellowship, but charming in its own way.

Third up is my new DS love, Etrian Odyssey. Unfortunately, this is largely out of print and slowly rising in price, but I managed to trade off a couple DS games I wasn't playing anymore for it. WOW. Old school RPG action all the way, challenging, lots of character classes and skill trees, and you even have to draw your own map as you go dungeon crawling. By far, the best thing I've played on the DS so far, and there's a lot of gems on that system. Not for kids, but those that cut their teeth on grid paper and dragon dice will love it.

Blue sky

Too bad it turned back to gray soon after.
